The Great Constellations
| 1 | وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡبُرُوجِwal-samāiوالسماءوَٱلسَّمَآءِBy the sky,dhātiذاتذَاتِcontainingl-burūjiالبروجٱلْبُرُوجِthe constellations,By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,By the sky full of constellations,By the sky containing great starsBy the sky, (displaying) the Zodiacal Signs; |
| 2 | وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡمَوۡعُودِwal-yawmiواليوموَٱلْيَوْمِAnd the Dayl-mawʿūdiالموعودٱلْمَوْعُودِPromised,And by the Promised Day.and by the promised Day,And [by] the promised DayBy the promised Day (of Judgment); |
| 3 | وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشۡهُودٖwashāhidinوشاهدوَشَاهِدٍAnd (the) witnesswamashhūdinومشهودوَمَشْهُودٍand what is witnessed,And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,and by the witness and the witnessed,And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,By one that witnesses, and the subject of the witness;- |
| 4 | قُتِلَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأُخۡدُودِqutilaقتلقُتِلَDestroyed wereaṣḥābuأصحابأَصْحَٰبُ(the) companionsl-ukh'dūdiالأخدودٱلْأُخْدُودِ(of) the pit,(Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditchcursed be the makers of the trench[1],Destroyed [i.e., cursed] were the companions of the trench[1895]Woe to the makers of the pit (of fire), |
| 5 | ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡوَقُودِal-nāriالنارٱلنَّارِ(Of) the firedhātiذاتذَاتِfulll-waqūdiالوقودٱلْوَقُودِ(of) the fuel,Of the fuel-fed fire,the fire full of fuel,[Containing] the fire full of fuel,Fire supplied (abundantly) with fuel: |
| 6 | إِذۡ هُمۡ عَلَيۡهَا قُعُودٞidhإذإِذْWhenhumهمهُمْtheyʿalayhāعليهاعَلَيْهَاby itquʿūdunقعودقُعُودٌ(were) sitting,When they sat by it,when they sat around it,When they were sitting near it.Behold! they sat over against the (fire), |
| 7 | وَهُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفۡعَلُونَ بِٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ شُهُودٞwahumوهموَهُمْAnd theyʿalāعلىعَلَىٰovermāمامَاwhatyafʿalūnaيفعلونيَفْعَلُونَthey were doingbil-mu'minīnaبالمؤمنينبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersshuhūdunشهودشُهُودٌwitnesses.And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.and were witnessing what they did to the believers[2].And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses. [1896]And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers. |
| 8 | وَمَا نَقَمُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤۡمِنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡحَمِيدِwamāوماوَمَاAnd notnaqamūنقموانَقَمُواْthey resentedmin'humمنهممِنْهُمْ[of] themillāإلاإِلَّآexceptanأنأَنthatyu'minūيؤمنوايُؤْمِنُواْthey believedbil-lahiباللهبِٱللَّهِin Allahl-ʿazīziالعزيزٱلْعَزِيزِthe All-Mighty,l-ḥamīdiالحميدٱلْحَمِيدِthe Praiseworthy,They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,Their only grievance against them was that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy,And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,And they ill-treated them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!- |
| 9 | ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ شَهِيدٌalladhīالذيٱلَّذِىThe One Who,lahuلهلَهُۥfor Himmul'kuملكمُلْكُ(is) the dominionl-samāwātiالسماواتٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavenswal-arḍiوالأرضوَٱلْأَرْضِand the earth;wal-lahuواللهوَٱللَّهُand Allahʿalāعلىعَلَىٰonkulliكلكُلِّeveryshayinشيءشَىْءٍthingshahīdunشهيدشَهِيدٌ(is) a Witness.Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and earth, and Allah is Witness over all things.To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, over all things, is Witness.[1897]Him to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allah is Witness to all things. |
| 10 | إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُواْ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَتُوبُواْ فَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابُ ٱلۡحَرِيقِinnaإنإِنَّIndeed,alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَthose whofatanūفتنوافَتَنُواْpersecutedl-mu'minīnaالمؤمنينٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believing menwal-mu'minātiوالمؤمناتوَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِand the believing women,thummaثمثُمَّthenlamلملَمْnotyatūbūيتوبوايَتُوبُواْthey repented,falahumفلهمفَلَهُمْthen for themʿadhābuعذابعَذَابُ(is the) punishmentjahannamaجهنمجَهَنَّمَ(of) Hellwalahumولهموَلَهُمْand for themʿadhābuعذابعَذَابُ(is the) punishmentl-ḥarīqiالحريقٱلْحَرِيقِ(of) the Burning Fire.Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.Indeed, for those who tortured the believing men and women, and then did not repent, there will be the punishment of Hell and the punishment of the burning fire[3].Indeed, those who have tortured[1898] the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire. |
| 11 | إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ جَنَّٰتٞ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡكَبِيرُinnaإنإِنَّIndeed,alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَthose whoāmanūآمنواءَامَنُواْbelievewaʿamilūوعملواوَعَمِلُواْand dol-ṣāliḥātiالصالحاتٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِthe righteous deeds,lahumلهملَهُمْfor themjannātunجناتجَنَّٰتٌ(will be) Gardenstajrīتجريتَجْرِىflowminمنمِنfromtaḥtihāتحتهاتَحْتِهَاunderneath itl-anhāruالأنهارٱلْأَنْهَٰرُthe rivers.dhālikaذلكذَٰلِكَThatl-fawzuالفوزٱلْفَوْزُ(is) the successl-kabīruالكبيرٱلْكَبِيرُthe great.Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.But those who believed and did righteous deeds will certainly have gardens under which rivers flow; that is the supreme triumph.Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires), |
| 12 | إِنَّ بَطۡشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌinnaإنإِنَّIndeed,baṭshaبطشبَطْشَ(the) Griprabbikaربكرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordlashadīdunلشديدلَشَدِيدٌ(is) surely strong.Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is severe.Indeed, the assault [i.e., vengeance] of your Lord is severe.Truly strong is the Grip (and Power) of thy Lord. |
| 13 | إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبۡدِئُ وَيُعِيدُinnahuإنهإِنَّهُۥIndeed He,huwaهوهُوَHeyub'di-uيبدئيُبْدِئُoriginateswayuʿīduويعيدوَيُعِيدُand repeats,Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,Indeed, it is He Who originates [the creation] and then resurrects all,Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). |
| 14 | وَهُوَ ٱلۡغَفُورُ ٱلۡوَدُودُwahuwaوهووَهُوَAnd Hel-ghafūruالغفورٱلْغَفُورُ(is) the Oft-Forgiving,l-wadūduالودودٱلْوَدُودُthe Most Loving,And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,and He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Affectionate,And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness, |
| 15 | ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡمَجِيدُdhūذوذُوOwner (of)l-ʿarshiالعرشٱلْعَرْشِthe Thronel-majīduالمجيدٱلْمَجِيدُthe Glorious,Lord of the Throne of Glory,the Lord of the Glorious Throne;Honorable Owner of the Throne,Lord of the Throne of Glory, |
| 16 | فَعَّالٞ لِّمَا يُرِيدُfaʿʿālunفعالفَعَّالٌDoerlimāلمالِّمَاof whatyurīduيريديُرِيدُHe intends.Doer of what He will.He does whatever He wills.Effecter of what He intends.Doer (without let) of all that He intends. |
| 17 | هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡجُنُودِhalهلهَلْHasatākaأتاكأَتَىٰكَcome to youḥadīthuحديثحَدِيثُ(the) storyl-junūdiالجنودٱلْجُنُودِ(of) the hosts,Hath there come unto thee the story of the hostsHas there not come to you the story of the forcesHas there reached you the story of the soldiers -Has the story reached thee, of the forces- |
| 18 | فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَثَمُودَfir'ʿawnaفرعونفِرْعَوْنَFiraunwathamūdaوثمودوَثَمُودَand Thamud?Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?of Pharaoh and Thamūd?[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamūd?Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? |
| 19 | بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكۡذِيبٖbaliبلبَلِNay!alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَThose whokafarūكفرواكَفَرُواْdisbelievefīفيفِى(are) intakdhībinتكذيبتَكْذِيبٍdenial.Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denialBut the disbelievers are in persistent denial,But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! |
| 20 | وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطُۢwal-lahuواللهوَٱللَّهُBut Allahminمنمِنfromwarāihimورائهموَرَآئِهِمbehind them,muḥīṭunمحيطمُّحِيطٌۢencompasses.And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.although Allah encompasses them from all sides.While Allāh encompasses them from behind.[1899]But Allah doth encompass them from behind! |
| 21 | بَلۡ هُوَ قُرۡءَانٞ مَّجِيدٞbalبلبَلْNay!huwaهوهُوَItqur'ānunقرآنقُرْءَانٌ(is) a QuranmajīdunمجيدمَّجِيدٌGlorious,Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.But this is a glorious Qur’an,But this is an honored Qur’ānNay, this is a Glorious Qur'an, |
| 22 | فِي لَوۡحٖ مَّحۡفُوظِۭfīفيفِىInlawḥinلوحلَوْحٍa Tablet,maḥfūẓinمحفوظمَّحْفُوظٍۭGuarded.On a guarded tablet.[inscribed] in a Preserved Tablet.[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.(Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! |
| 1 | وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ |
| 2 | وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ |
| 3 | وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ |
| 4 | قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ |
| 5 | النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ |
| 6 | إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ |
| 7 | وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ |
| 8 | وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ |
| 9 | الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ |
| 10 | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ |
| 11 | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ |
| 12 | إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ |
| 13 | إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ |
| 14 | وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ |
| 15 | ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ |
| 16 | فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ |
| 17 | هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ |
| 18 | فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ |
| 19 | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ |
| 20 | وَاللَّهُ مِن وَرَائِهِم مُّحِيطٌ |
| 21 | بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَّجِيدٌ |
| 22 | فِي لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍ |

| 7 | وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودَwahumوهموَهُمْAnd theyʿalāعلىعَلَىٰovermāمامَاwhatyafʿalūnaيفعلونيَفْعَلُونَthey were doingbil-mu'minīnaبالمؤمنينبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَto the believersshuhūdunشهودشُهُودٌwitnesses.And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.and were witnessing what they did to the believers[2].And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses. [1896]And they witnessed (all) that they were doing against the Believers. |

He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,Indeed, it is He Who originates [the creation] and then resurrects all,Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.It is He Who creates from the very beginning, and He can restore (life). |
| 14 | وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُwahuwaوهووَهُوَAnd Hel-ghafūruالغفورٱلْغَفُورُ(is) the Oft-Forgiving,l-wadūduالودودٱلْوَدُودُthe Most Loving,And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,and He is the All-Forgiving, the Most Affectionate,And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Full of Loving-Kindness, |
| 15 | ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُdhūذوذُوOwner (of)l-ʿarshiالعرشٱلْعَرْشِthe Thronel-majīduالمجيدٱلْمَجِيدُthe Glorious,Lord of the Throne of Glory,the Lord of the Glorious Throne;Honorable Owner of the Throne,Lord of the Throne of Glory, |
| 16 | فَعَّالَ لِّمَا يُرِيدُfaʿʿālunفعالفَعَّالٌDoerlimāلمالِّمَاof whatyurīduيريديُرِيدُHe intends.Doer of what He will.He does whatever He wills.Effecter of what He intends.Doer (without let) of all that He intends. |
| 17 | هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِhalهلهَلْHasatākaأتاكأَتَىٰكَcome to youḥadīthuحديثحَدِيثُ(the) storyl-junūdiالجنودٱلْجُنُودِ(of) the hosts,Hath there come unto thee the story of the hostsHas there not come to you the story of the forcesHas there reached you the story of the soldiers -Has the story reached thee, of the forces- |
| 18 | فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَfir'ʿawnaفرعونفِرْعَوْنَFiraunwathamūdaوثمودوَثَمُودَand Thamud?Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud?of Pharaoh and Thamūd?[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamūd?Of Pharaoh and the Thamud? |
| 19 | بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِي تَكْذِيبٖbaliبلبَلِNay!alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَThose whokafarūكفرواكَفَرُواْdisbelievefīفيفِى(are) intakdhībinتكذيبتَكْذِيبٍdenial.Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denialBut the disbelievers are in persistent denial,But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,And yet the Unbelievers (persist) in rejecting (the Truth)! |
| 20 | وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطُۢwal-lahuواللهوَٱللَّهُBut Allahminمنمِنfromwarāihimورائهموَرَآئِهِمbehind them,muḥīṭunمحيطمُّحِيطٌۢencompasses.And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.although Allah encompasses them from all sides.While Allāh encompasses them from behind.[1899]But Allah doth encompass them from behind! |
| 21 | بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانَ مَّجِيدَbalبلبَلْNay!huwaهوهُوَItqur'ānunقرآنقُرْءَانٌ(is) a QuranmajīdunمجيدمَّجِيدٌGlorious,Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.But this is a glorious Qur’an,But this is an honored Qur’ānNay, this is a Glorious Qur'an, |
| 22 | فِي لَوْحٖ مَّحْفُوظِۭfīفيفِىInlawḥinلوحلَوْحٍa Tablet,maḥfūẓinمحفوظمَّحْفُوظٍۭGuarded.On a guarded tablet.[inscribed] in a Preserved Tablet.[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.(Inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved! |

وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ ١ وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ ٢ وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ
٣ قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الْأُخْدُودِ ٤ النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ ٥ إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا
قُعُودٌ ٦ وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ ٧ وَمَا نَقَمُوا
مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَن يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ ٨ الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ
السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ ٩ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ
فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ
عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ ١٠ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ
جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ذَٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ ١١ إِنَّ بَطْشَ
رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ ١٢ إِنَّهُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ ١٣ وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ ١٤
ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ ١٥ فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ ١٦ هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ
١٧ فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ ١٨ بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيبٍ ١٩ وَاللَّهُ مِن
وَرَائِهِم مُّحِيطٌ ٢٠ بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَّجِيدٌ ٢١ فِي لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍ ٢٢
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ ١ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ ٢ وَشَاهِدٖ وَمَشْهُودٖ
٣ قُتِلَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ ٤ ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ ٥ إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا
