The Splitting Open
| 1 | إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡidhāإذاإِذَاWhenl-samāuالسماءٱلسَّمَآءُthe skyinshaqqatانشقتٱنشَقَّتْis split asunder,When the heaven is split asunderWhen the sky is rent asunder,When the sky has split [open]When the sky is rent asunder, |
| 2 | وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡwa-adhinatوأذنتوَأَذِنَتْAnd has listenedlirabbihāلربهالِرَبِّهَاto its Lordwaḥuqqatوحقتوَحُقَّتْand was obligated,And attentive to her Lord in fear,and hearkens to its Lord[1], as it must,And has listened [i.e., responded][1888] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- |
| 3 | وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡwa-idhāوإذاوَإِذَاAnd whenl-arḍuالأرضٱلْأَرْضُthe earthmuddatمدتمُدَّتْis spread,And when the earth is spread outand when the earth is leveled out[2],And when the earth has been extended[1889]And when the earth is flattened out, |
| 4 | وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡwa-alqatوألقتوَأَلْقَتْAnd has cast outmāمامَاwhatfīhāفيهافِيهَا(is) in itwatakhallatوتخلتوَتَخَلَّتْand becomes empty,And hath cast out all that was in her, and is emptyand casts out all what it contains[3], and becomes empty,And has cast out that within it[1890] and relinquished [it]And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, |
| 5 | وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡwa-adhinatوأذنتوَأَذِنَتْAnd has listenedlirabbihāلربهالِرَبِّهَاto its Lordwaḥuqqatوحقتوَحُقَّتْand was obligated.And attentive to her Lord in fear!and hearkens to its Lord, as it must,And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] –And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). |
| 6 | يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِyāayyuhāيا أيهايَٰٓأَيُّهَاOl-insānuالإنسانٱلْإِنسَٰنُmankind!innakaإنكإِنَّكَIndeed, youkādiḥunكادحكَادِحٌ(are) laboringilāإلىإِلَىٰtorabbikaربكرَبِّكَyour Lordkadḥanكدحاكَدْحًا(with) exertionfamulāqīhiفملاقيهفَمُلَٰقِيهِand you (will) meet Him.Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).O humans, you are toiling towards your Lord[4], and you will surely meet Him[5].O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion[1891] and will meet it.[1892]O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. |
| 7 | فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦfa-ammāفأمافَأَمَّاThen as formanمنمَنْ(him) whoūtiyaأوتيأُوتِىَis givenkitābahuكتابهكِتَٰبَهُۥhis recordbiyamīnihiبيمينهبِيَمِينِهِۦin his right (hand),Then whoso is given his account in his right handWhoever is given his Record in his right hand,Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, |
| 8 | فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗاfasawfaفسوففَسَوْفَThen soonyuḥāsabuيحاسبيُحَاسَبُhis account will be takenḥisābanحساباحِسَابًاan account,yasīranيسيرايَسِيرًاeasy,He truly will receive an easy reckoninghe will have an easy reckoning,He will be judged with an easy accountSoon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, |
| 9 | وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗاwayanqalibuوينقلبوَيَنقَلِبُAnd he will returnilāإلىإِلَىٰٓtoahlihiأهلهأَهْلِهِۦhis peoplemasrūranمسرورامَسْرُورًاhappily.And will return unto his folk in joy.and he will return to his people joyfully.And return to his people in happiness.And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! |
| 10 | وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦwa-ammāوأماوَأَمَّاBut as formanمنمَنْ(him) whoūtiyaأوتيأُوتِىَis givenkitābahuكتابهكِتَٰبَهُۥhis recordwarāaوراءوَرَآءَbehindẓahrihiظهرهظَهْرِهِۦhis back,But whoso is given his account behind his back,But whoever is given his Record from behind his back,But as for he who is given his record behind his back,But he who is given his Record behind his back,- |
| 11 | فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗاfasawfaفسوففَسَوْفَThen soonyadʿūيدعويَدْعُواْhe will callthubūranثبوراثُبُورًا(for) destruction,He surely will invoke destructionhe will call out for destruction,He will cry out for destructionSoon will he cry for perdition, |
| 12 | وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًاwayaṣlāويصلىوَيَصْلَىٰAnd he will burnsaʿīranسعيراسَعِيرًا(in) a Blaze.And be thrown to scorching fire.and he will enter the Blazing Fire.And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.And he will enter a Blazing Fire. |
| 13 | إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًاinnahuإنهإِنَّهُۥIndeed, hekānaكانكَانَhad beenfīفيفِىٓamongahlihiأهلهأَهْلِهِۦhis peoplemasrūranمسرورامَسْرُورًاhappy,He verily lived joyous with his folk,Indeed, he used to live among his people joyfully.Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! |
| 14 | إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَinnahuإنهإِنَّهُۥIndeed, heẓannaظنظَنَّ(had) thoughtanأنأَنthatlanلنلَّنneveryaḥūraيحوريَحُورَhe would return.He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).and he thought that he would never return [to Allah].Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)! |
| 15 | بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗاbalāبلىبَلَىٰٓYes!innaإنإِنَّIndeed,rabbahuربهرَبَّهُۥhis Lordkānaكانكَانَwasbihiبهبِهِۦof himbaṣīranبصيرابَصِيرًاAll-Seer.Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!Indeed he will! His Lord was always watching him.But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! |
| 16 | فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِfalāفلافَلَآBut nay!uq'simuأقسمأُقْسِمُI swearbil-shafaqiبالشفقبِٱلشَّفَقِby the twilight glow,Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,Indeed, I swear by the twilight,So I swear by the twilight glowSo I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; |
| 17 | وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَwa-al-layliوالليلوَٱلَّيْلِAnd the nightwamāوماوَمَاand whatwasaqaوسقوَسَقَit envelops,And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,and by the night and what it covers,And [by] the night and what it envelopsThe Night and its Homing; |
| 18 | وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَwal-qamariوالقمروَٱلْقَمَرِAnd the moonidhāإذاإِذَاwhenittasaqaاتسقٱتَّسَقَit becomes full,And by the moon when she is at the full,and by the moon when it becomes full,And [by] the moon when it becomes fullAnd the Moon in her fullness: |
| 19 | لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖlatarkabunnaلتركبنلَتَرْكَبُنَّYou will surely embarkṭabaqanطبقاطَبَقًا(to) stageʿanعنعَنfromṭabaqinطبقطَبَقٍstage.That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.You will surely pass from one stage to another[6].[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.[1893]Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. |
| 20 | فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَfamāفمافَمَاSo whatlahumلهملَهُمْ(is) for themlāلالَاnotyu'minūnaيؤمنونيُؤْمِنُونَthey believe,What aileth them, then, that they believe notThen what is the matter with them that they do not believe,So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- |
| 21 | وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانُ لَا يَسۡجُدُونَۤ۩wa-idhāوإذاوَإِذَاAnd whenquri-aقرئقُرِئَis recitedʿalayhimuعليهمعَلَيْهِمُto theml-qur'ānuالقرآنٱلْقُرْءَانُthe Quran,lāلالَاnotyasjudūnaيسجدونيَسْجُدُونَthey prostrate?And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?and when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not prostrate?And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, |
| 22 | بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَbaliبلبَلِNay!alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَThose whokafarūكفرواكَفَرُواْdisbelievedyukadhibūnaيكذبونيُكَذِّبُونَdeny,Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;Rather, the disbelievers persist in denying it,But those who have disbelieved deny,But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). |
| 23 | وَٱللَّهُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَwal-lahuواللهوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahaʿlamuأعلمأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingbimāبمابِمَاof whatyūʿūnaيوعونيُوعُونَthey keep within themselvesAnd Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.but Allah knows best whatever they harbor in their hearts.And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) |
| 24 | فَبَشِّرۡهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍfabashir'humفبشرهمفَبَشِّرْهُمso give them tidingsbiʿadhābinبعذاببِعَذَابٍof a punishmentalīminأليمأَلِيمٍpainful,So give them tidings of a painful doom,So give them the tidings of a painful punishment.So give them tidings of a painful punishment,So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, |
| 25 | إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمۡ أَجۡرٌ غَيۡرُ مَمۡنُونِۭillāإلاإِلَّاExceptalladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَthose whoāmanūآمنواءَامَنُواْbelievewaʿamilūوعملواوَعَمِلُواْand dol-ṣāliḥātiالصالحاتٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِrighteous deeds.lahumلهملَهُمْFor themajrunأجرأَجْرٌ(is) a rewardghayruغيرغَيْرُnevermamnūninممنونمَمْنُونٍۭending.Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.But those who believe and do righteous deeds will have a never-ending reward.Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. |
| 1 | إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ |
| 2 | وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ |
| 3 | وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ |
| 4 | وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ |
| 5 | وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ |
| 6 | يَا أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ |
| 7 | فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ |
| 8 | فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا |
| 9 | وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا |
| 10 | وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ |
| 11 | فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا |
| 12 | وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا |
| 13 | إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا |
| 14 | إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ |
| 15 | بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا |
| 16 | فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ |
| 17 | وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ |
| 18 | وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ |
| 19 | لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ |
| 20 | فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ |
| 21 | وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ |
| 22 | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ |
| 23 | وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ |
| 24 | فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ |
| 25 | إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ |

| 15 | بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗاbalāبلىبَلَىٰٓYes!innaإنإِنَّIndeed,rabbahuربهرَبَّهُhis Lordkānaكانكَانَwasbihiبهبِهِۦof himbaṣīranبصيرابَصِيرًاAll-Seer.Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!Indeed he will! His Lord was always watching him.But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! |

| 21 | وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ۩wa-idhāوإذاوَإِذَاAnd whenquri-aقرئقُرِئَis recitedʿalayhimuعليهمعَلَيْهِمُto theml-qur'ānuالقرآنٱلْقُرْءَانُthe Quran,lāلالَاnotyasjudūnaيسجدونيَسْجُدُونَthey prostrate?And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?and when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not prostrate?And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, |
| 22 | بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُكَذِّبُونَbaliبلبَلِNay!alladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَThose whokafarūكفرواكَفَرُواْdisbelievedyukadhibūnaيكذبونيُكَذِّبُونَdeny,Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;Rather, the disbelievers persist in denying it,But those who have disbelieved deny,But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). |
| 23 | وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَwal-lahuواللهوَٱللَّهُAnd Allahaʿlamuأعلمأَعْلَمُ(is) most knowingbimāبمابِمَاof whatyūʿūnaيوعونيُوعُونَthey keep within themselvesAnd Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.but Allah knows best whatever they harbor in their hearts.And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) |
| 24 | فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍfabashir'humفبشرهمفَبَشِّرْهُمso give them tidingsbiʿadhābinبعذاببِعَذَابٍof a punishmentalīminأليمأَلِيمٍpainful,So give them tidings of a painful doom,So give them the tidings of a painful punishment.So give them tidings of a painful punishment,So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, |
| 25 | إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونِۭillāإلاإِلَّاExceptalladhīnaالذينٱلَّذِينَthose whoāmanūآمنواءَامَنُواْbelievewaʿamilūوعملواوَعَمِلُواْand dol-ṣāliḥātiالصالحاتٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِrighteous deeds.lahumلهملَهُمْFor themajrunأجرأَجْرٌ(is) a rewardghayruغيرغَيْرُnevermamnūninممنونمَمْنُونٍۭending.Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.But those who believe and do righteous deeds will have a never-ending reward.Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. |

إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انشَقَّتْ ١ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٢ وَإِذَا الْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
٣ وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ٤ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٥ يَا
أَيُّهَا الْإِنسَانُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَاقِيهِ ٦ فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ
كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ ٧ فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا ٨ وَيَنقَلِبُ
إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا ٩ وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ ١٠ فَسَوْفَ
يَدْعُو ثُبُورًا ١١ وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا ١٢ إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا ١٣
إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ ١٤ بَلَىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كَانَ بِهِ بَصِيرًا ١٥ فَلَا أُقْسِمُ
بِالشَّفَقِ ١٦ وَاللَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ ١٧ وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ ١٨
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ ١٩ فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٢٠ وَإِذَا قُرِئَ
عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ ٢١ بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُكَذِّبُونَ
٢٢ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ ٢٣ فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٢٤
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ ٢٥
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ ١ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٢ وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ
٣ وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ ٤ وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ ٥ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ ٦ فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ
