The Palm Fibre
| 1 | تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبٖ وَتَبَّtabbatتبتتَبَّتْPerishyadāيدايَدَآ(the) handsabīأبيأَبِى(of) AbulahabinلهبلَهَبٍLahabwatabbaوتبوَتَبَّand perish he.The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.May the hands of Abu Lahab[1] perish, and may he perish!May the hands of Abū Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.[2008]Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he! |
| 2 | مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَmāمامَآNotaghnāأغنىأَغْنَىٰ(will) availʿanhuعنهعَنْهُhimmāluhuمالهمَالُهُۥhis wealthwamāوماوَمَاand whatkasabaكسبكَسَبَhe earned.His wealth and gains will not exempt him.Neither his wealth nor his worldly gains will avail him.His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.No profit to him from all his wealth, and all his gains! |
| 3 | سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارٗا ذَاتَ لَهَبٖsayaṣlāسيصلىسَيَصْلَىٰHe will be burntnāranنارانَارًا(in) a FiredhātaذاتذَاتَoflahabinلهبلَهَبٍBlazing Flames,He will be plunged in flaming Fire,He will burn in a Flaming Fire,He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flameBurnt soon will he be in a Fire of Blazing Flame! |
| 4 | وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِwa-im'ra-atuhuوامرأتهوَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥAnd his wife,ḥammālataحمالةحَمَّالَةَ(the) carrierl-ḥaṭabiالحطبٱلْحَطَبِ(of) firewood,And his wife, the wood-carrier,and so will his wife[2], the carrier of firewood,And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.[2009]His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!- |
| 5 | فِي جِيدِهَا حَبۡلٞ مِّن مَّسَدِۭfīفيفِىInjīdihāجيدهاجِيدِهَاher neckḥablunحبلحَبْلٌ(will be) a ropeminمنمِّنofmasadinمسدمَّسَدٍۭpalm-fiber.Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre.around her neck will be a rope of palm fiber[3].Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.A twisted rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck! |

| 4 | وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ |
| 5 | فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ |
